Possible Ebola case in eastern Sierra Leone after 111 disease-free days

Xinhua, April 7, 2015 Adjust font size:

Local official in Sierra Leone's eastern Kailahun district has denied that the death of a nine-year- old child is caused by Ebola disease -- a possible break to the district's 111 days without new Ebola cases.

An earlier report by the Ministry of Health said the child "has been proved positive of Ebola."

When addressing the press, chairman of the district council, Alex Bonafa, denied that but said "anyway, the hospital and all its staff have been quarantined."

A high level-team made up of members from the World Health Organization, Sierra Leone's National Ebola Response Center and the Heath Ministry is now in Kailahun to assess the situation.

Sierra Leone reported its first Ebola disease in Kailahun in May 2014.

A resident in the township told xinhua that local people were generally calm. Endi
