Ruling parties of Vietnam, Russia sign cooperation agreement

The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) and United Russia Party (URP), the ruling parties of the two countries, inked a cooperation agreement here on Monday.

The agreement was signed by Vietnamese Head of the Party Central Committee's Commission for External Relations Hoang Binh Quan and member of the Presidium of the United Russia Party's General Council and Deputy Chairman of the Committee on International Affairs of the Council of Russian Federation Andrey Klimov under the witness of General Secretary of CPV Nguyen Phu Trong and Russian Prime Minister and President of the URP Dmitry Medvedev.

Speaking at the meeting with Medvedev, the Vietnamese party chief Nguyen Phu Trong said the signing of the cooperation agreement lays a solid groundwork for their partnership, adding that Vietnam values the traditional friendship and comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia.

Dmitry Medvedev, for his part, said Russia considers Vietnam a leading partner in Southeast Asia and remains determined to foster the comprehensive strategic partnership with Vietnam and cooperation between the two parties, reported Vietnam's state-run news agency VNA.
