Preview: No pause in Spain as 30th round of La Liga starts

Xinhua, April 6, 2015 Adjust font size:

Although there is still one game to play in the 29th round of games in the Spanish BBVA Primera Liga, there is no time for the sides to take breath as a frantic month of April continues this week.

Tuesday sees the first set of games from match-day 30 in which the battle for Europe is once again in the spotlight.

The weekend's results saw Atletico Madrid leapfrog Valencia into third place in the table, which would mean direct qualification for the group stage of next season's Champions League.

Following their comfortable win over Cordoba, Atletico receive ninth-placed Real Sociedad, who themselves have ambitions of finishing seventh and qualifying for next season's Europa League.

Atletico lost away to the Basque side earlier this season and will probably rotate in attack with Raul Jimenez and Fernando Torres having a chance of starting alongside former Real Sociedad forward Antoine Griezmann.

Meanwhile, Real Sociedad will travel in good spirits after a late Ruben Pardo goal gave them a valuable point away to Malaga.

Malaga are currently seventh in the table and will be optimistic of maintaining their five-point cushion over eighth placed Athletic Club Bilbao when they visit Eibar.

Eibar have yet to win in the second half of the season and Friday's defeat to Rayo Vallecano was their eighth loss in nine games.

Finally, fifth-placed Sevilla, who moved to within just three points of Valencia after this weekend's results, travel to Valencia, but to face Levante.

Levante gave their survival chances a huge boost with a 4-1 win in Almeria on Saturday and will hope to carry that form into Tuesday's game knowing a win would mean they have gone a long way towards assuring top-flight survival.

That will be easier said than done however, and the Levante defense will have to be at its best to keep out Sevilla strikers Carlos Bacca and Vitolo, who are both a potent threat on the break. Endit
