Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the National Air Quality Index so as to monitor pollution levels in 10 major cities.

"The world thinks that India is not bothered about the environment. We have had a culture where environment has been equal to divine," Modi said after launching the index at a two-day conference of Environment Ministers of all states in the national capital.(India-Air Quality Index)

COLOMBO -- Former Maldives President Mohamed Nasheed can still appeal a 13-year terrorism conviction at the High Court despite the end of the 10-day appeal period, local media reported on Monday.

However, Nasheed's lawyers said they believe they have no legal route through which to launch an appeal, and the ex-leader' s only hope for release is a clemency procedure initiated by the president, local newspaper Minivan reported. (Maldives-Ex- President-Appeal)

PUL-E-KHUMRI, Afghanistan -- Four police were killed and three others injured as a roadside bomb struck police van in the northern Baghlan province with Pul-e-Khumri as its capital 160 km north of Kabul on Monday, a local official said. "The terrorists organized a roadside bomb which struck police vehicle in Baghlan-e-Markazi district at noon time killing four police personnel and injuring three others,"district governor Gohar Khan Babri told Xinhua. JAKARTA -- Indonesia hailed the recent signing of a preliminary agreement that would base a comprehensive joint framework to address Iranian nuclear program, saying that it would highly contribute to preserving peace and stability both in the region and in the world, a statement released by Indonesian Foreign Ministry said here on Monday. "The accomplishment of the preliminary agreement went through tough and weary processes. It showed that diplomacy and dialogue are best ways to resolve every problem faced by the international community,"the statement said, referring to the recent negotiation between Iran and six nuclear power states in Lausanne,Switzerland.
