1st LD-Writethru: 2 police injured as blast rocks Afghanistan's Rustaq district

Two district police officials sustained injuries as a bomb went off in Rustaq district of the northern Takhar province with Taluqan as its capital 245 km north of Kabul on Sunday, a local official said.

"The people of Rustaq district were celebrating Nawroz or New Year on a ground in Rustaq district today when a mine planted by militants exploded, injuring the district police chief and his deputy," police spokesman in the province Abdul Khalil Asir told reporters.

He didn't give more details.

Nawroz, or Afghan New Year, begun on March 21 and since then the people of Afghanistan by organizing variety of activities including arranging valley ball and football matches celebrate the day for several more days. Endi
