SNCF to sponsor Euro 2016

Xinhua, April 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

France's national railway company SNCF has become the fourth sponsors for the Euro 2016 on home soil, announced the tournament's organizers on Thursday.

Soccer's European governing body UEFA are currently in discussions with various other French companies with a view to appointing the last two national partners as six in total are planned for Euro 2016.

The French Games (FDJ) were committed last October, while Credit Agricole and temporary employment agency PROMAN signed their contracts in March.

"This partnership represents confirmation of SNCF's ongoing backing for and commitment to major sports events in France - a commitment that spans the transport of both passengers and freight.

"SNCF will be there for fans before, during and after their journeys next summer, both in stations and across the rail network, " read a press release by UEFA and the SAS Euro 2016, who's in charge of the tournament's organization.

SNCF CEO Guillaume Pepy promised to mobilize the entire team of 200,000 railway workers and partners to serve the tournament.

"Euro 2016 in France will be an extraordinary festival of football, and SNCF is delighted to have this opportunity to play a full role in the event and make a major contribution to the tournament," he said.

"SNCF's experience in transporting passengers and its various initiatives and commitments in the field of sport make it a natural complement to EURO 2016's values of excellence and unity," commented Jacques Lambert, president of Euro 2016 SAS. Endite
