Zambian boxer to defend WBC title against Italian opponent

Xinhua, April 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

A Zambian boxer will defend his World Boxing Council (WBC) international welterweight title against Italian Gianluca Frezza, the Zambia Daily Mail reported on Thursday.

Zimbabwean-born boxer Charles Manyuchi was initially scheduled to defend the title against Mexican Silvero Ortiz.

The boxer, who fights under Oriental Quarries Boxing Promotions, will face his challenger on July 18 in Milan, Italy.

Chris Malunga, the boxer's manager said the stable opted for the Italian pugilist because he has offered good conditions.

"WBC has already approved the move and the contract has been signed. It is important for him to start fighting boxers who are experienced and highly rated. Ortiz is also a good boxer but the response from his promoters has been very bad. We did not have any other choice but to withdraw him and go for Frezza," he was quoted as saying by the paper.

The 35-year-old Italian has a record of 22 wins that includes seven knockouts, to draws and defeats in his 28 fights. Endite
