Terror threat influences holiday choice of one third of Austrians: survey

Xinhua, April 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

The threat of terror attacks influenced the holiday destination choices of nearly one third of Austrians, a new survey from the Market institute showed Thursday.

The survey of 511 adults shows that concern over terror attacks in potential holiday destinations is particularly high among 30 to 49-year-olds, evidently largely out of concern for their children.

One quarter of respondents even regarded the threats of terror incidences as high, while 74 percent said they would delay a holiday to a country if an actual threat of terror activity existed, and would either change their destination or holiday domestically instead.

Overall 83 percent said they regarded Austria as safe, followed by Switzerland (78 percent), Germany (61 percent), and Croatia (57 percent).

About half of the respondents, however, said they felt no concern about terror attacks, and a further 18 percent very little concern.

A total of 85 percent said they plan to travel for at least a few days during the upcoming summer, with 35 percent planning a trip domestically, and just under one-fifth planning to travel abroad. Endit
