The municipal council of Misrata on Thursday released 14 Egyptian fishermen, who had been detained in the western city of Libya for four months on charges of entering the Libyan territorial waters illegally, according to a source in the council.
The source told Xinhua that the security services, under the auspices of the council, have released the 14 Egyptian fishermen, who illegally entered Libyan territorial waters just off the coast of the northern gulf of Sirte.
The source said their fishing equipments were seized by the coast guards before they were allowed to leave with their fishing bulldozer, by which they entered the territorial waters.
"The fishermen have broken the law. However, the municipal council of Misrata has released them as a goodwill gesture, so they do not repeat this act in the future," the source said. Endit
