Police arrests 67 in Nigeria for electoral offenses

The police in Nigeria's north central Kano State have arraigned 67 persons for their alleged involvement in electoral offenses during the March 28 presidential and National Assembly elections.

State police spokesperson Magaji Majiya, told a news conference in Kano on Thursday that the suspects were apprehended at various locations during the elections.

Majiya said the suspects were arrested for electoral offenses such as breaching of peace and snatching of ballot papers.

He said the police recovered from the suspects some weapons such as knives, swords, sticks, machete, bows and arrows.

The spokesperson however, commended the people of the state for cooperating with the command during the elections, saying that it was conducted peacefully in the state.

The police have equally exhibited a high level of professionalism in discharging their constitutional responsibilities during the elections, Majiya said.

He called on the people, especially the youths, to be cautious in the manner they celebrated Gen. Muhammadu Buhari's victory at the poll to avoid accidents. Endi
