Pakistani parliament to discuss Middle East crisis

Xinhua, April 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

Pakistan has summoned an emergency session of the parliament to meet on April 6 to discuss the country's role in the Middle East crisis, officials said on Thursday.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif presided over a high-level meeting to review the evolving situation in Yemen in the wake of airstrikes against the Shiite Houthi rebels.

The Defense Minister, Khawaja Muhammad Asif, who led a delegation to Saudi Arabia, presented a report to the Prime Minister about his talks with his Saudi counterpart and other senior defense officials.

"Pakistan condemns the actions by non-state actors in Yemen to overthrow a legitimate government, and calls upon the warring factions to resolve all issues peacefully," said an official statement issued after the meeting.

The meeting was convened amid western media reports that Pakistan has decided to send troops to Saudi Arabia. Pakistan has rejected the reports as false. Endi
