New car sales in New Zealand highest in three decades

Xinhua, April 2, 2015 Adjust font size:

New car sales in New Zealand hit a three-decade high last month, reflecting a strong economy, the Motor Industry Association said Thursday.

"March registrations of 11,755 new passenger and commercial vehicles is the strongest March since 1984. March registrations for new vehicles were up 5 percent on March 2014," MIA Chief Executive Officer David Crawford said in a statement.

Year-to-date sales were up 8 percent, or 2,394 units, from the same period last year.

New registrations of 8,075 passenger vehicles last month were 81 units higher than March 2014, making it the highest March since 1984.

New registrations of commercial vehicles were 436 units higher than for March 2014, and the highest March since 1982.

"New vehicle registrations for 2015 continue to reflect a strong economy, which is reflected in the continuing strong performance in the light commercial vehicle sector," said Crawford.

Toyota was the overall market leader for the month of February with 15 percent market share, followed by Holden with 10 percent and Ford with 9 percent. Endi
