Germany's benchmark DAX index advances

The benchmark DAX index at the Frankfurt Stock Exchange on Wednesday advanced slightly and closed at 12,001.38 points.

The strong economic data from the euro zone could have driven the index much higher, but the weak job figures from the United States spoiled the mood at the exchange, according to German business daily Handelsblatt.

The steel giant ThyssenKrupp AG led the risers' list, up by 2.05 percent. Commerzbank AG, the second largest bank in Germany, rose by 1.63 percent. The utilities company RWE AG St advanced by 1.35 percent. LANXESS AG, a specialty chemicals company, climbed by 1.24 percent and Merck KGaA, a chemical, pharmaceutical and life sciences company went up by 1.2 percent.

On the other hand, Volkswagen AG Vz dropped by 1.29 percent. BMW AG St lost 0.82 percent. Fresenius SE & Co. KGaA, a health care company slipped by 0.5 percent. Continental AG plunged by 0.43 percent and Henkel AG & Co. KGaA Vz, a laundry and home care company, slid by 0.41 percent.

The turnover stood at 4.52 billion euros (around 4.87 billion U.S. dollars ). Daimler AG was the most traded share of the day with a turnover of 649.45 million euros. (1 euro = 1.08 U.S. dollars) Endit
