Mauritius economy forecasted to grow at 4.1 pct in 2015

Xinhua, April 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Mauritius economy is expected to grow at 4.1 percent in 2015 against a 3.5 percent growth in 2014, Statistics Mauritius said in a report released on Tuesday.

According to the report, the tourism and construction sectors will be the key drivers of the economy.

Analysts at the Statistics Mauritius said after four consecutive years of contraction, the construction sector will this year record a 3.3 percent expansion.

As for the tourism sector, after having crossed the symbolic figure of 1 million visitors in 2014, the number of visitors is expected to rise to 1.1 million this year.

Another sector that is expected to expand this year is the information and communication technologies that will grow by 7 percent, it said.

The forecast is similar to that of the World Bank that equally predicted a 4.1 percent economic growth in 2015.

Speaking recently while presenting the annual budget, Mauritius' Finance Minister Vishnu Lutchmeenaraidoo said "with implementation of budgetary measures and revival of the construction sector, Mauritius could record a 5.7 percent growth in 2016." Endi
