Afghan president nominates 16 ministers to parliament for approval

Xinhua, April 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Another 16 ministers-nominees were introduced to Wolesi Jirga or Lower House of Afghan parliament for approval on Wednesday.

In his speech after introducing the nominees, the second vice president Sarwar Danesh urged the lawmakers to show trust in the ministers-nominees so as to enable the government to complete its cabinet.

It would take some one week for the Lower House to scrutinize the educational background and nationalities of the ministers- nominees to give vote of confidence.

The lawmakers have announced the rejection to any dual nationality holder during the process of trust vote for minister- designate.

Some of the nominees are said to have dual nationalities either from the United States or European countries.

President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani after assuming office in last September announced to form cabinet within 45 days but in January he introduced over two dozen ministers-nominees to the parliament and only eight were approved and the remaining ministries are run by acting ministers.

However, on Wednesday no one has been nominated for the post of Defense Ministry. Endi
