World Bank gives Cote d'Ivoire 50 mln USD for youth employment

Xinhua, April 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

The World Bank has approved the disbursement of 50 million U.S. dollars to support youth employment programs in Cote d'Ivoire, a source from the bank said on Tuesday.

"The loan given to the country is meant to support vulnerable youths who will earn some income by working on temporary assignments," the statement added.

Besides giving youths temporary assignments that will give them experience which increases their employability, the money will also be spent on giving youths professional training.

The money will boost the project dubbed "Youth Employment and Skills Development in Cote d'Ivoire," initiated in 2011 and funded to the tune of 50 million dollars by the World Bank.

"The Cote d'Ivoire government has sought this additional funding since it will reinforce implementation of initial projects, and it will also go towards equipping more vulnerable youths with necessary skills, something that is necessary for the country's long term stability," head of the program Hamoud Abdel Wedoud Kamil said.

The World Bank's director of operations in Cote d'Ivoire Ousmane Diagana equally noted that creation of jobs for youth was an essential factor for consolidation of peace and stability in the country. Endi
