Australian consumers worried by gov't policy: report

Australians consumers are concerned over government policy and the upcoming May federal budget, according to a new report released on Wednesday.

The National Australia Bank's Consumer Anxiety Index for the first quarter of 2015 showed that Australians are seeing less movies and paying off more debt, such as utility bills and medical expenses.

The Consumer Anxiety Index rose to 61.8 points in the first three months of 2015 from 60.1 in the December quarter.

NAB Chief Economist Alan Oster said in a statement that the federal May budget is consumer anxiety related to government policy is a significant concern for a large number of Australians.

Retirement funds and meeting medical costs are causing the greatest concerns, according to the report. Endi
