Algeria and South Africa on Tuesday inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to reinforce their political consultations, as part of the three-day visit of the South African president Jacob Zuma to Algeria.
The MoU was signed by Algerian Foreign Minister Ramtane Lamamra and his South African counterpart Maite Nkoana Mashabane, on the sidelines of 6th Higher Bilateral Commission of Cooperation which kicked off in Algiers.
APS news agency quoted Lamamra as saying that " the agreement is part of the process of expanding and strengthening existing agreements in a bid to open new horizons for bilateral cooperation in different fields."
The Algerian top diplomat further noted that the 6th Higher Bilateral Commission of Cooperation "will be followed by head to head meetings between ministers and senior officials to discuss ways of boosting the two nations' cooperation in all fields, and pave the way to establishing the strategic partnership."
Nkoana Mashabane told reporters that the memorandum "is meant to accelerate regular diplomatic consultations between the two countries," noting that Algerian-South African Joint Committee on Trade and Investment will be established sooner in a bid to boost economic cooperation.
Earlier on Tuesday, Abdelaziz Bouteflika has received here his South African counterpart and held a bilateral meeting. Endit
