Indian aviation authorities probe near miss of Etihad, Emirates flights

Indian aviation authorities have launched a probe into a near miss of collision involving aircraft of two Gulf carriers over Indian airspace early on Monday, said local media Tuesday.

The accident was averted when the Mumbai Air Traffic Control alerted one of the commanders, after the two passenger planes came very close to each other in the Indian airspace.

The incident involving Emirates and Etihad Airways was reported to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, which has started its investigation.

The incident occurred on the intervening night of March 29 and 30, when Emirates flight EK-706 was heading to Dubai from Seychelles while Etihad flight EY-622 was on way to Seychelles from Abu Dhabi.

The two aircraft were perilously close to each other, before Mumbai Air Traffic Control alerted one of the commanders by giving a Resolution Advisory, given to the pilot if the distance reduces to the extent that the risk of collision gets to 25 seconds. Endi
