Preliminary results showed that incumbent Uzbek President Islam Karimov has won over 90 percent of the votes in the country's presidential election, the Uzbek central election commission announced on Monday.
The commission said the preliminary tally indicates that Karimov has won over 17 million votes, but final results will be announced in 10 days. (Uzbekistan-Election-Result)

BAGHDAD -- UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Monday paid an official visit here, aiming at showing the international community's support to the Iraqi government in fighting against the Islamic State (IS) extremist militant group.
During his visit, Ban met with Iraqi President Fuad Masoum and "called to respect the interests of the people in the areas that are freed from the (IS) terrorism, rebuild and stabilize their areas in a way that ensures the rule of law, as well as bringing those who were responsible for violating the human rights to justice," according to a statement from the presidency office. SANAA -- Yemen's defense ministry, which is controlled by Shiite Houthi militia, said a Saudi-led airstrike on Monday hit a local displaced refugee camp in northern Yemen, killing more than 40 people and injuring 250 others.
It said the refugee camp consists of 4,000 people and locates at al-Mazrak area in Haradh district on the northwest borders with Saudi Arabia. The casualties included women and children, the ministry added without providing further details. (Yemen-Saudi-Airstrike)

YANGON -- Peace negotiators of the Myanmar government and ethnic armed groups reached a seven-chapter draft nationwide ceasefire agreement (NCA) here Monday, ending one year and four months' peace negotiation on the draft accord.
The agreed draft accord is expected to be signed by negotiation group members of both sides Tuesday, while the formal NCA is to be endorsed in Nay Pyi Taw at an agreed future date by leaders of the government and the ethnic armed groups before being forwarded to the parliament for approval. LAUSANNE, Switzerland -- Negotiations over Iran's nuclear program entered a critical phase on Monday with differences still remaining and the atmosphere here has changed from "optimism" to some kind of "gloom" among negotiators.
