Xinhua, March 29, 2015 Adjust font size:

Landslides on Saturday night in West Java of Indonesia killed 10 people and left 2 others missing, official said on Sunday.

Heavy downpours triggered collapse of a hill in Tegal Panjang village of Sukabumi district at 22:30 p.m. Jakarta time Saturday ( 1530 GMT) and buried 11 houses, said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, spokesman of the national disaster management agency.

Searching for the missing persons underneath the debris of damaged houses is underway involving soldiers, volunteers and police, the spokesman said.

"So far, 10 have been found dead, and searching for two others is underway now," he told Xinhua by phone.

The landslide also buried a road and as many as 300 people were fleeing homes and taking shelters, he said.

Landslide is frequent in Indonesia during heavy downpours. Endi
