15 militants killed in Afghan army's cleanup operations

About 15 militants were killed while seven others were wounded after Afghan army launched cleanup operations, the Defense Ministry said on Sunday.

"Afghan National Army carried out cleanup operations in three out of the country's 34 provinces, killing 15 armed opponents and wounding seven others over the past 24 hours," the ministry said in a statement.

Two army soldiers were also killed in a blast and enemy's direct firing. The army specialists found and defused 19 roadside bombs and land mines over the same period, according to the statement.

The Taliban insurgent group has yet to make comments.
