Shaikh Hamdan's prince Bishop thoroughbred wins 20th Dubai World Cup

The eight-year-old thoroughbred owned by Dubai crown prince Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohamed Al-Maktoum finished here on Saturday the 2000 meters long turf contest with a time of 2:03.24 minutes before California Chrome and Lea (both United States).

Ridden by jockey William Buick and trained by renowned Emirati horse guru Saeed Bin Suroor, Prince Bishop cashed in six million dollar worth of prize money. A total of 10 million u.s. dollars worth of prize money was available and sponsored by Dubai' s state-owned carrier Emirates Airline at the last race of the Dubai World Cup this year.

The ninth race of the Dubai World Cup day saw top favorite and last year' s winner African Story owned by Dubai' s royal Godolphin stables only achieving rank six. The race took place amid good weather and temperatures around 20 degrees on late Saturday evening.

Horses owned by Dubai' s ruling Al-Maktoum family won three out of nine races at this year' s Dubai World Cup. With a total prize money worth 30 million u.s. dollars, the event is the most prestigious horserace in the world and must-event for Dubai' s high society. Endi
