Kenya Airways resumes flights to Tanzania

Xinhua, March 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Kenya Airways confirmed Friday it has resumed its normal flight schedules to Tanzania from its Nairobi hub after reducing its frequencies a week ago.

The national carrier reduced its frequencies to Dar es Salaam from 42 to 14 per week on March 19 after Tanzanian authorities slapped restrictions on flights entering its airspace.

However, talks between the two countries' presidents held in Namibia last week resolved the standoff and allowed Kenya Airways to resume its full frequencies.

Kenya Airways CEO Mbuvi Ngunze expressed the airlines appreciation to the two governments for the expeditious resolution of all the pending issues.

Mbuvi added in a statement that Kenya Airways remains committed to continue playing its role in promoting regional economic growth and working with all stakeholders in achieving this goal.

"This follows the amicable resolution of the Bilateral Air Services Agreements (BASA) between Kenya and Tanzania," Ngunze said, adding that "Kenya Airways wishes thank its customers for their patience and apologize for the inconvenience caused during this period."

During the talks, the Kenyan and Tanzanian leaders have also agreed that, with immediate effect, Tanzania registered vehicles will access Kenya's main airport, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport as before. Endi
