(Recast) Sri Lanka, China hold successful discussions: senior official

The Sri Lankan government on Friday said that President Maithripala Sirisena, who is currently on a state visit to China, had held successful discussions with the Chinese government.

"President Sirisena held successful discussions with the Chinese President and other officials in Beijing and five key agreements between the two nations were signed," Deputy Foreign Minister Ajith Perera told journalists in capital Colombo.

He said the two sides discussed the overall Chinese investments in Sri Lanka and "how this will benefit the country," and that Chinese projects which maintains transparency, equality and benefits Sri Lanka, will be allowed to continue in the island nation as per the government's regulations.

Perera said China was one of the countries that helped Sri Lanka to rebuild itself as a true friend after the war in May 2009. Endi
