Conflicts kill 8 militants in Afghanistan

Eight Taliban militants were killed and 10 others including three police sustained injuries as clash erupted in Wardoj district of Badakhshan province on Friday, a local official said. "Security forces launched operations in Akhshira village of Wardoj district early Friday morning and had killed eight Taliban rebels," district governor Dawlat Mohammad Khawar told reporters.

Shadowy district governor of Taliban in Wardoj Mullah Abid has been arrested during the crackdown, the official said.

Ten more persons including seven insurgents and three police personnel sustained injuries during the operations, the official added.

Wardoj has been regarded as a Taliban stronghold in Badakhshan province.
