Algeria, Zimbabwe advocate settling Africa's conflicts within AU

Xinhua, March 27, 2015 Adjust font size:

Algeria and Zimbabwe consider to set up programs within the African Union (AU) meant to settle peacefully various conflicts and crises hitting the continent, the president of Zimbabwe said here on Thursday, concluding his two-day visit.

"Facing the destabilization attempts and conflicts in different parts of Africa, we have discussed the possibility for us (Algeria and Zimbabwe) to help resolve those issues through the implementation of AU programs," President Robert Mugabe, who chairs the AU, was quoted as saying by APS news agency, following his meeting with Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika.

Underlining the "contribution as much as possible" of both countries to resolving conflicts in Africa, Robert Mugabe called for an approach to reach lasting solutions.

The AU chairman further hailed convergent views between Algeria and Zimbabwe over regional and international issues, saying bilateral relations need to be strengthened and broaden to all domains.

"We have focused our talks on ways of developing joint venture projects in energy, public works and construction, in addition to railway and air transport," he noted. Endit
