Tokyo stocks close 0.17 pct higher

Tokyo stocks closed 0.17 percent higher Wednesday as investors eye dividends ahead of the financial year-end, but gains were limited due to profit-taking after recent gains.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was up 32.75 points, from Tuesday at 19,746.20. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 4.42 points, or 0.28 percent, to 1,592.01.

Major gainers included textile and apparel, real estate and food issues, while losers were mining, pharmaceuticals and shipping.

The turnover was 2,562.2 billion yen (about 21.42 billion U.S. dollars). Endi
