Algeria urges int'l community to combine counterterrorism efforts

Xinhua, March 25, 2015 Adjust font size:

Algeria on Tuesday said the international community has no alternative but to combine their efforts to curb the global terrorist threats, as it hosts a two-day conference on counterterrorism in the African Sahel region.

"Algeria believes that there is no alternative to the combined efforts and resources of the international community to defeat the terrorist threats," Abdelkader Messahel, Algeria's delegate minister for Maghreb and African affairs, said in his opening speech to the conference.

This meeting, co-chaired by Algeria and Canada, is part of the annual agenda of the Global Counterterrorism Forum (GCTF), as representatives of some 30 nations and international organizations participate.

Messahel said the conference aimed at discussing ways of enhancing capabilities in the fight against terrorism and drying up its funding resources.

Recalling the deadly attacks that cast a pall over the Yemeni and Tunisian peoples, the Algerian official also warned that terrorist groups see every country as a potential target. Endit
