Afghan demonstrators condemn killing of woman, call for justice

Xinhua, March 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Thousands of demonstrators on Tuesday staged a peaceful protest in Afghan capital Kabul, calling on government to bring to justice those responsible for killing a woman Fakhunda on street.

On Thursday, the 27-year-old Farkhunda was beaten to death and her body was set on fire by a group of people who accused her of burning copies of Quran, the Muslims' holy book.

The demonstrators chanted slogans "We want justice", "The killers must be hanged", and "Farkhunda is innocent" during the protest which was held near the country's Supreme Court building in central Kabul.

On Monday, a commission assigned by Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani began its work to thoroughly investigate the case, according to a statement issued by the presidential palace.

The protesters were dispersed peacefully later in the day. Endi
