Kenya club eyes continental women's volleyball crown

Xinhua, March 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Kenyan women's volleyball giants Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB) are optimistic of returning home with the continental crown as the CAVB African Women's Club Volleyball Championships will kick off in Egypt on Thursday.

The team, which has been training in Nairobi, will leave the country on Tuesday to begin the medal hunt, having qualified for the continental bonanza after clinching third place in the National play-offs held in Mombasa last year.

"My team has been training for the last one and half months and we are looking forward to good results in the championships. Currently we don't have any injuries and I am confident that we will surprise our opponents," head coach Vernon Kainga said on Monday.

Kainga said his blend of youth and experience will strike the right combination to rule Africa.

"With the intense training, we feel that we are well prepared for the tournament. We are ready to make Kenya proud and bring the trophy back home," team captain Gladys Wairimu added.

The team won its last crown in 2006 during the edition in Mauritius. Endite
