Ghana seals Africa beach football qualification

Xinhua, March 24, 2015 Adjust font size:

Ghana made mincemeat of Uganda 13-2 in the second-leg of the CAF beach football qualifiers in Accra to book qualification to the Africa Beach football championship in The Seychelles next month.

The victory comes a week after the Black Sharks, Ghana's national beach football team, beat the Sand Cranes in the first leg 9-6 to make it to the maiden CAF nations cup competition slated for April.

Ghana has thus qualified on a 22-8 aggregate.

The President of the Beach Football Association, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, appealed to corporate bodies to support the team to enable it to participate in the championship and win laurels for Ghana.

He announced that the team would move straight into camp to fine-tune for the tournament.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) will for the first time organize the beach football championship and every two years subsequently to get two African teams to qualify for the bi-annual FIFA Beach Football World Cup.

Eight teams, including hosts Seychelles, are expected to take part in the championship.

The winners and runners-up will represent Africa in the FIFA World Cup in Portugal later this year. Endite
