China on Monday expressed condolences over the death of former Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Fraser.

"We express condolences over the passing of Mr. Fraser and extend sympathies to his family," Foreign Ministry spokesman Hong Lei said at a daily news briefing.

Fraser made positive contributions to China-Australia ties and friendship, Hong said.

Fraser, who led the country from November 1975 to March 1983, died at 84, his office announced on Friday. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said Fraser was a "giant of Australian politics". Endi
