World Bank to give Guinea Bissau 78 mln USD for energy sector

Xinhua, March 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

The World Bank will give Guinea Bissau a loan of 78 million U.S. dollars for completion of an electricity network of 218 km, the country's Natural Resources Minister Daniel Gomes said on Thursday.

Gomes was speaking in Bissau after returning from Paris where he participated in a meeting with the World Bank under the auspices of the Gambia River Basin Organization which brings together Gambia, Guinea, Guinea Bissau and Senegal.

The completion of the electricity network will greatly attract foreign investments in the country, Gomes said, adding that from next year, the town of Bissau will have cheap and sufficient energy.

He said the World Bank will also disburse 200 million dollars for electricity transportation from Sambangalou and Kaleta hydroelectric dams, respectively in Senegal and Guinea, under the auspices of the Gambia River Basin Organization. Endi
