Chinese villager injured in Myanmar warplane bombing remains critical

Xinhua, March 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

One of eight Chinese villagers injured in a Myanmar warplane bombing last week remains in critical condition despite medical treatment, said Chinese authorities on Friday.

Two with serious injuries are improving and their lives are no longer in danger, and five others with minor injuries have been discharged from the hospital after treatment, said the government of Lincang City in southwest China's Yunnan Province.

The joint investigation into the incident between the two countries has not been completed, said the Lincang government, denying Myanmar had proposed compensation of 70,000 yuan (11,383 U.S. dollars) for each Chinese citizen who was killed.

On March 13, a bomb dropped by a Myanmar warplane hit a sugarcane field in Lincang, which borders the conflict-hit Southeast Asian nation, killing five villagers and injuring eight others.

After the incident, China lodged serious complaints to Myanmar and Myanmar expressed sorrow for the Chinese casualties.

China's troops are conducting armed patrols in the border area to ensure the security of local residents. Endi
