Indonesia, U.S. militaries agree to wage war against IS

Xinhua, March 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indonesian Military Commander Gen. Moeldoko said on Thursday that Indonesian and U.S. militaries have agreed to curb the movement of the radical group Islamic State (IS) .

The statement was conveyed by Moeldoko upon receiving the visit of U.S. Ambassador to Indonesia Robert O Blake in his office here.

Moeldoko said the agreement was resulted from his recent meeting with U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Martin Dempsey.

Moeldoko said the IS is an apparent threat to the existence of Indonesia as a unitary state, saying it has to be extinguished from developing in the country.

To eradicate the IS from its operation in the nation, Moeldoko said the military has actively conducted intense communication with Muslim clerics so as to straighten the perception among people in Indonesia that the IS is a common enemy.

"IS must not be developing in any territory in Indonesia. It has been decided," Moeldoko said in a statement released by the Indonesian Military Headquarters. Endi
