China hails Israeli elections

A spokesman for China's Foreign Ministry on Thursday congratulated Israel over its parliamentary elections

Hong Lei's comments at a regular press briefing came after Israel's ruling right-wing Likud party, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, won 30 seats in the 120-member parliament and beat opposition leader Isaac Herzog's Zionist Union, which won only 24 seats, according to official results on Wednesday.

"China would like to work with the new Israel government and boost the growth of bilateral relations," Hong said.

He also called on Palestine and Israel to work together and show sincerity to restart their peace talks at an early date and seek a fair and lasting solution to the Palestine issue. Endi
