(Sports)Sri Lanka hails players despite exit from ICC World Cup

Xinhua, March 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Sri Lankan government on Thursday commended the efforts of the national cricket team for their performance at the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup despite the players failing to qualify for the semi finals.

Sri Lanka on Wednesday had to depart from the ICC World Cup being played in Australia due to their defeat against South Africa in a quarter final match.

Deputy Minister of Sports, Wasantha Senanayake told Xinhua that the country had to accept the defeat in a "good spirit" and added that the players had performed well through the tournament.

"It is sad we had to exit the ICC World Cup but just as we celebrate a victory in true spirit, we have to accept defeat in the same manner. Our team performed well and for that we must respect our players," Senanayake said. Endi
