Brazilian president's approval rate falls to record low

The approval rate of Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff and her government has hit a record low of 13 percent, a survey released by the Datafolha polling institute showed Wednesday.

A total of 62 percent of interviewees said they disapproved of Rousseff's government, and 24 percent considered it regular.

The figures showed a big discrepancy from the previous Datafolha poll in February, when 23 percent of interviewees considered the Rousseff administration good and 44 percent thought it bad.

The average grade given to the president by interviewees was 3.7 out of 10, the lowest since the beginning of her first government in January 2011.

Rousseff has been facing a severe political turmoil since the beginning of her second term. She was re-elected in October 2014.

Her government has been under big pressure because of a corruption scandal of state-controlled energy giant Petrobras.

The Datafolha poll was carried out on March 15 with 2,842 respondents, and has a margin of error of two points.

To fight against corruption and win back the approval from the people, Rousseff on Wednesday officially presented a package of tougher anti-corruption measures to be voted by parliament. Endi
