Switzerland provides 6.6 mln euro grant for gas infrastructure in Albania

Xinhua, March 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Swiss government has provided a 6.6 million euros (7.09 million U.S. dollars) grant to support large gas infrastructure developments in Albania, it was announced Wednesday.

The grant agreement was signed by Swiss Ambassador to Albania Beatrice Maser, Albanian Minister of Energy and Industry Damian Gjiknuri, and Albanian Finance Minister Shkelqim Cani.

Gjiknuri said that the Swiss financial assistance was a very important contribution towards building domestic capacity and development of gas infrastructure projects in Albania.

He also expressed commitment to further enhancing cooperation with the Swiss government in the energy sector and in energy efficiency in particular.

Maser said the government of the Swiss Confederation would also support the Albanian government in other areas, highlighting that more needed to be done to improve the country's legislation -- one of the five key recommendations included in the EU progress report on Albania. Endit
