Maldives president leaves for Saudi Arabia on official visit

Maldives President Abdulla Yameen and First Lady Fathimath Ibrahim on Wednesday left for Saudi Arabia on an official visit, an official said.

Spokesperson of the President's Office, Ibrahim Muaz Ali, said that the president is flying to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.

The leaders of both nations would discuss bilateral ties. They are expected to discuss current events in the international community as well.

King Salman had visited the Maldives in February of 2014 before his accession to the throne.

Maldivian Vice President Mohamed Jameel Ahmed had visited the king in January to convey his condolences on the passing away of his half-brother, the late King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz. Endi
