Investigators Monday revealed fresh details following the arrest of a minor from Iraq attempting to smuggle bomb making materials via the King Fahad Causeway linking Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
Terror Crimes Chief Prosecutor Ahmed Al Hammadi said the bus the minor used to smuggle the materials had 55 passengers onboard mostly women and children.
He said that during Sunday X-ray screening of passenger luggage Causeway police found bags containing suspicious items.
"Upon closer inspection, 140 electric detonators, 41 electric circuits to be used in blasts, a remote control and mobile phones were found hidden inside electrical appliances in the bag," stated Mr Al Hammadi.
He said they questioned the passengers and discovered that the bag belonged to minor, instructed by a fugitive living in Iraq to deliver it to an individual in Bahrain for use in terror acts.
"When questioned, the suspect admitted he carried the bag from Iraq after a relative requested he hand it over to an individual in Sitra - known for riots and participation in terror acts - to use them for detonations inside the kingdom."
Prosecution charged the suspect with importing and acquiring explosive materials for terrorist intent, referring him to Juvenile Court. Endit
