Mogherini: EU upholds non-recognition of Crimea

The foreign policy chief of the European Union (EU), Federica Mogherini, said the EU remained committed to fully implementing its non-recognition policy of Crimea in a declaration on Monday.

She said one year after the referendum over Crimea and Sevastopol, the EU "remains firmly committed to Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity."

"The EU does not recognize, and continues to condemn" what they believe is a violation of international law, she said, adding that the EU would support this position through restrictive measures.

As part of the non-recognition policy regarding the annexation of Crimea and Sevastopol, the EU has prohibited goods imported from these regions which do not bear Ukrainian certificates as of June of last year.

According to Mogherini's declaration, the EU reaffirmed its deep concern at "the continuous military build-up and deterioration of the human rights situation" in the Crimean peninsula, and called for providing international human rights actors with full and unrestricted access to the region. Endit
