Czech gov't approves salary raise of municipal politicians

According to information released by the Czech cabinet's press department, the Czech government approved on Monday the raise of salaries by 3.5 percent for regional governors, their deputies, mayors and their deputies, members of town councils and paid self-rule members as from April 1, 2015.

The Czech Union of Towns and Municipalities requested the raise in connection with the amendment that raised the salaries of civil servants in 2014.

The proposal for raising the salaries of municipal politicians was prepared by the Interior Ministry, the higher remuneration on local level will not have any impact on the state budget, but on the budgets of regions and municipalities.

After the raise of salaries, the mayors of smaller communities will be paid about 30,000 crowns (about 1,200 U.S. dollars) gross monthly, the heads of large cities over 79,000 crowns, the Mayor of Brno about 96,000 crowns and the Mayor of Prague 101,000 crowns. The salary of regional governors is to rise between 84,000 and 97,000 crowns depending on the size of the region. (1 U.S. dollar = 25 crowns) Endit
