Seoul shares ended higher on Monday.

The benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) rose 1. 54 points, or 0.08 percent, to 1,987.33 at the close. Trading volume stood at 315.6 million shares worth 4.56 trillion won (4.03 billion U.S. dollars).

The South Korean currency finished at 1,131.5 won against the greenback, down 3.0 won from Friday's close.

TOKYO -- Tokyo shares ended slightly lower Monday amid cautions ahead of policy decisions from the Bank of Japan and the U.S. Federal Reserve. The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average inched down 8. 19 points, or 0.04 percent, from Friday at 19,246.06.

The turnover was about 2,451.7 billion yen (about 20.21 billion U.S. dollars).

SYDNEY -- The Australian share market closed weaker on Monday with oil and mining stocks driving down the market.

At the official market close, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was down 16.8 points, or 0.29 percent, at 5,797.7, while the broader All Ordinaries index had lost 18.3 points, or 0.32 percent, at 5,769.7.

TAIPEI -- Taiwan's share prices closed down 0.69 percent Monday with the weighted index down 66.44 points at 9,512.91, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 81.07 billion new Taiwan dollars (2.56 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks moved up 126.34 points, or 0.53 percent, to close on Monday at 23,949.55 points.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 23,711.27 and 23, 970.05. Turnover totaled 73.16 billion HK dollars (about 9.43 billion U.S. dollars).

SHANGHAI -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Monday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 2.26 percent to finish at 3, 449.30 points.

The Shenzhen Component Index went up 2.60 percent to close at 12,017.77 points.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 580.8 points on Monday, down 5.3 points, or 0.9 percent, against last Friday's closing session.

About 100.538 million shares worth 1.816 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (84.65 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 83 stocks went up, 141 stocks fell down, while 68 stocks remained unchanged.

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 85.08 points on Monday, down 0.64 points or 0.75 percent, against the previous closing session.

A total of 55.466 million shares worth 682.29 billion Vietnamese dong (31.96 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange, an increase of 79.39 percent in volume and 60.79 percent in value against the previous closing session.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished higher on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) up 13.27 points, or 0.39 percent, to close at 3,376.04.

A total of 1.06 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 901.1 million Singapore dollars (647.6 million U.S. dollars).

KUALA LUMPUR -- The Malaysian stock market ended lower here on Monday. The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index (KLCI) was at 1,780.54 down 1.21 points or 0.07 percent, and the Emas was at 12,260.96 down 24.09 points or 0.20 percent.

Turnover increased to 2.46 billion shares valued at 1.90 billion ringgit Malaysia(512.61 million U.S. dollars), compared with 2.96 billion shares valued at 1.82 billion ringgit Malaysia( 493.63 million U.S. dollars) on last Friday.

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 8.08 points, or 0. 16 percent, to a level of 5,435.27 on Monday.

Some 199,520 transactions were booked, involving 6.22 billion shares worth 5.70 trillion rupiah (about 430.31 million U.S. dollars).

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Monday at 4,478 points, down 58.40 points or about 1.29 percent from Thursday's finish.

Total turnover increased to about 2.9 billion taka (about 37.14 million U.S. dollars) on Monday from about 3.1 billion taka (about 39.78 million U.S. dollars) on Sunday.

MUMBAI -- Indian shares closed lower on Monday. The Indian stock benchmark BSE Sensex closed at 28,437.71,65.59 points or 0. 23 percent down from previous close of 28,503.30 points.
