Cambodia and Turkey on Monday signed an agreement on visa exemption for diplomatic and official passport holders, aiming to further enhance bilateral ties and cooperation.
The deal was inked between Cambodian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Hor Namhong and visiting Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu.
Prior to the signing ceremony, the two ministers held talks to explore ways to strengthen and expand bilateral ties and cooperation. "We discussed ways to promote bilateral relations in economics, trade, investment and tourism," Hor Namhong said in a joint press conference.
Mevlut Cavusoglu said he was the first Turkish Foreign Minister visiting Cambodia, and he inaugurated the Turkish embassy residence in Phnom Penh on Sunday. "This clearly shows Turkey's commitment to further enhancing relations with Cambodia," he said.
He added that Turkey would support Cambodia for an observer state at the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
On the trade side, he said, Turkey is committed to boosting the annual trade volume with Cambodia to 500 million U.S. dollars by 2020, from 124 million dollars last year.
Both sides also exchanged views on international and regional issues, including the issue of the Islamic State (IS).
Mevlut Cavusoglu arrived in Cambodia on Sunday for a three-day visit. Endi
