Suspected Al-Shabaab militants on Sunday night killed at least one person and wounded three others in yet another terror attack in Kenya's northern border town of Mandera.
Mandera East Deputy County commissioner Elvis Korir said Monday unknown number of armed gunmen believed to be members of Somalia- based terror group Al-Shabaab also raided a shop in the county.
Korir said the assailants, who drove in private car, opened fire at shoppers at a shop in Bulla-Mpya suburb on the outskirts of Mandera town at 8:30 p.m. local time.
"The assailants opened fire at a group of shoppers, killing one man instantly, while at the same time critically injuring three others," Korir told Xinhua by telephone.
Korir said those injured in the dusk incident were rushed to Mandera referral hospital, where they are undergoing treatment for the gun wounds sustained in the terror attack.
"Our combined security officers are combing the area for the escaping assailants and we are hoping to catch up with them before they managed to cross the porous border into Somalia," he said.
The government administrator said the investigations on the motives of the attacks and the identity of the attackers is on ongoing.
The latest attack comes two days after gunmen attacked the convoy of Mandera Governor Ali Roba, killing four people, including two policemen in the same county.
The governor escaped unhurt. Top security chiefs visited the restive region on Saturday and pledged to enhance security along the border with Somalia. Endi
