Indonesia to probe arrests of 16 citizens in Turkey

Indonesia is to send a task force for the investigation of the travel purpose of 16 Indonesian nationals arrested in Turkey earlier this month, officials said here on Friday.

Spokesman of Indonesian Foreign Ministry Armanatha Nasir said the task force groups members from intelligence agency, police and anti-terror authority and will tour Gaziantep city on the Turkey- Syria border, where the arrests took place on March 4.

The spokesman said the detainees include children and women.

"Based on their testimony, they insisted to cross to Syria," he said.

The Turkish government would coordinate in the mission, said Nasir.

Indonesian Intelligence Agency (BIN) has been coordinating with Turkey's counter-part on their possible joining in the radical group Islamic State (IS).

BIN Chief Marciano Norman said further coordination with the Turkish authorities is underway to seek confirmation of the Islamic State (IS) recruiting.

The Indonesian government has banned the IS ideology from developing in the country. Endi
