Heatherwick Exhibition kicks off Asia tour in Singapore

Xinhua, March 12, 2015 Adjust font size:

A British design exhibition named "New British Inventors: Inside Heatherwick Studio", kicked off its Asian tour on Thursday at the National Design Center in Singapore

The exhibition will also be held in China's Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, South Korea's Seoul and Inida's Mumbai.

Co-held by the British Council and the GREAT British campaign, the Heatherwick exhibition offers unique insight into the ideas and experiments that go into realizing their projects, demonstrating the studio's inventive and entrepreneurial approach to design and craftsmanship.

The Heatherwick exhibition is composed of three sections, " Thinking", "Making" and "Storytelling", presenting key projects selected from a rich portfolio of work spanning 21 years.

A 1:20 scale model of "Seed Cathedral", the British pavilion of 2010 Shanghai World Expo, a model and film of 2012 London Olympic Cauldron, the New Bus of London and a model of the rolling bridge in London are on show together with other works of Thomas Heatherwick, who established the Heatherwick Studio in 1994, as well as the studio's design team.

"The exhibition explores the rigorous process of critical thinking and questioning that goes into their design process with finished projects shown alongside experiments with form and materials," said Kate Goodwin, curator of the Heatherwick Studio, also head of Architecture and Drue Heizn Curator at the Royal Academy of Arts.

In tandem with the exhibition, Heatherwick Studio opened its Learning Hub for Nanyang Technological University in Singapore on the same day.

The exhibition also runs as part of Singapore Design Week, which lasts until March 22 and brings together a collection of local and international design activities in Singapore. Endi
