Jordan to get 17.5 mln USD from Japan to aid Syrian refugees

Jordan said Wednesday it will receive 17.5 million U.S. dollars in aid from Japan to help it handle the crisis of the Syrian refugees.

According to a statement by Jordan's Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, the two countries signed three grant agreements on Wednesday.

The aid will help Jordan purchase medical equipment and supplies to deal with the increasing numbers of the Syrian refugees in the country, the statement said.

There are more than 1.5 million Syrian refugees in Jordan.

The grant will be also used to support the cultural sector in Jordan and support development projects in various areas, it added.

Japan extended some 450 million dollars in grants to Jordan during the period from 1999 to 2014. Endit
